Hi Natalie!

2 of my llamas are fixed - the other one is not. I don't want to breed llamas which is why we only have boys. Females though are usually just as good at guarding as males. I did research when we first moved here to learn about llama "beans" and that's where I found out the information about the benefits of it. Funny thing is - it was actually mentioned in Southern Living magazine last year to "make friends with a llama" because of the benefits!!

Is there a reason why your llamas seem to be all males? Are they "fixed"?
On the subject of LLama fertilizer, where do you get the analysis of the "poop" from? In other words, is there a reference for the benefits of llama fertilizer?

Please enlighten me,
Natalie

I'd love the recipe!!! I love sneaking veggies into some desserts :) The kids LOVE chocolate zuke bread (that recipe I got and editted a little from allrecipes.com)

Visit our forum and stick the recipe under VEGGIES!! With all the zukes coming in I'm sure everyone would be more than greatful for creative recipes!!

Have you ever made zucchini brownies? I have a good recipe. They are really moist and chocolaty. The zucs just make it a bit more texture like adding coconut would. Most people don't even know it's in them.

Hi, I just found your website this morning and began reading your blogs. I'm curious if you visited the church again and how it went. I think it is my church you visited! Our pastor lives in Bluemont (out your way) even though the church is in Arcola. We do have great children's programs. The middle school youth group would be great for your sixth grader. My sixth grader is involved in it and I lead the Sr. High youth group. So let me know how it's going.

I am looking forward to bringing my family out to visit your farm one day soon. The tour and egg gathering sounds like a wonderful adventure my 3 boys would love!

Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by! The triplet lambs did not make it - the mom stopped producing milk. It was really sad after all the work put into it.

Quails wre true cannibals. It was amazing that they would really attack each other compared to other animals. With 800 chickens - none really attack each other.... 24 quail - really went after each other for no obvious reason :)

Hi there,

I just wanted to drop you a note because I've spent the past couple of hours reading your blog entries and it's just been so fascinating. You're doing so many things that I've only ever dreamed of trying and I really admire how gutsy you guys were to just go out and do it. What was especially neat was reading that neither you nor your husband grew up on farms, and that you've been teaching yourselves as you go.

Now, just out of curiosity, because sometimes you write about something and then don't bring it up again - How did the quails turn out? And did the little black lamb make it or the scrawny triplet lamb?

Thanks for sharing so many of your thoughts and experiences. I am 34 with 2 young kids and I go back to work in a week after 3 months of maternity leave. My husband and I work at a computer game company and met online too.

Best of luck this spring and summer with all the markets coming up!

Hey John,

All of our birds are out every day - even when it was snow and ice they still went outside.

1st year we were here - TONS of Japanese Beetles... last year barely any. They LOVE the grubs and do an excellent job "bug hunting".

Whoops, I see that you clearly do. I've read that chickens do an amazing job of pest-control in a field. Is that your experience?

By the way, if you upgrade to the new blogger, we'd be able to subscribe to feeds of your comments as well as your posts.
